I have not eaten at Per Se. Friends who have tell me that the dress code is enforced as the restaurant is creating a certain atmosphere for their guests.

They also say jackets are required at the French Laundry, but I always see men there without them, so the rules don't seem to be enforced too strictly. However, that doesn't stop me from wearing a suit.

Overall, I'd probably prefer to go to Per Se than Le Bernardin because I somewhat dislike LB's room and crowd.

I have given this whole Keller versus Ripert thing careful thought. I have had them face off countless time in the cage match that is my mind.

I think that when you weigh the merits of both, the best compromise is to fly to Paris and have a simple roast poulet de Bresse, say at Taillevent.

I hope that this information is useful, particularly pertaining to the blazer versus suit question for Per Se. BTW, if one goes in a blazer, the full naval effect would be splendid.

"Ahoy, Keller."

Vox, I think the fact that you have an Elvis pompadour is extremely cool.

It would be a mistake to consider it one of those foodie temples. The service is far to convivial, for one thing.

If you just want a kickass roast chicken, they will do that for you.

in my Pre-style forum days i was invited to attend a trip to vegas with the crew from the auto racing team i was working with.

One of the investors in the whole mess was a guy who was a serious steak lover, so we went to Charlie Palmer's in the four seasons.....in t-shirts, jeans, and me in a pair of work boots.

I think we offended everyone's sensibility quite thoroughly, the owner's best friend's Uncle was a chef there at the time, and declined to come out and say hello to us.

I dont think the manager minded much though, everyone at the table ordered ordered lobster and double orders of Kobe steak, and the best part. The waiter graciously asked us if we would like to know what the market price was for the steaks we were ordering (none of us had any idea the price of kobe) and my friend Adam looked at him and say...."nah, we're not worried about it".

Later on, after they sent us round after round of appetizers on the house, we found out the steaks we ordered were $200/ea and the bill for 6 people totaled $1600.

I ate at the same Charlie Palmer's a year or two ago. It was altogether a brutal dining experience. The steaks were solid, and some of the sides were great, but other sides were just terrible, and the service was a total joke. And everyone in the place was wearing either Vegas-guido stuff or jeans and t-shirts.

No, but I will tell you that there was younger and more ample cleavage at my table at that meal, and then at the booth directly across, two amazing Swiss blondes in their twenties.

Does that help?

I had been meaning to cross it off the list as it was one of the few big Paris restaurants I had not been to (damn you everything being closed in August). I didn't expect my socks to be knocked off but it was pretty average, I expected a bit more. Service was actually pretty good, but not sure I would waste my time going back.

Thank you. I credit frying my peanut butter and banana sandwiches.

It's unfair, but it's one of those places where they will make you a better meal if they like you.

It sounds so unprofessional, but that is part of its charm.

The two meals that we had at L'Astrance that week were certainly more inspired.

So I shouldn't cut mine off?
