Drake turns out some real clunkers, near-Talbott disasters, while Marinella are almost uniformly nice, if somewhat dull (but I like dull ties).

Marinella also uses a different lining than Drake, a bit thinner and less spongy. And the shape is cut differently. Marinella's shape is that Italian "bottle" shape that Nicky also does. Drake is cut more like a straight-sided triangle.

All that may not be more expensive to produce, and it may not be worth the money, but there is a difference.

Drake's makes a wide variety of ties; most of the designs I've seen have been pretty nice. In ready-to-wear (versus their made-to-order), Marinella's ties are generally in prints as dull as dirt, to the point that I think I gave my first Marinella away when I left Freedom. While Drakes has made ties in prints as soporific, they make many peppier designs, like the ties they make for Emma Willis. Drakes does make some pocket squares for Marinella, I bought one, although Marinella also sells pocket squares it appears to make itself, out of tie silk. In the past Drakes has apparently made a few ties for Marinella, which is what FNB was hinting at earlier on. Drakes manages to include a small "MD" on one of the tags of almost any tie or square it makes, so it's not hard to tell. I prefer Holliday and Brown to Marinella, largely because I don't have much inclination for bespoke ties and I'm not much in Naples or Milan, where the service at Marinella is pitch-perfect warm, helpful and patient. H&B (now made in Italy) make ties in classic prints similar to Marinella, but also in many unusual and beautiful patterns (q.v. my thread on them). Marinella sews their keeper into the seam, H&B do not, but I can live with that.

manton and fnb,

every thread does not need to be a pissing match between the two of you. You are both knowledgeable in the clothing business, you both have legitimate gripes against the other (as legitimate as an argument between two "virtual" people who have never met each other and have no effect on each other's lives can be), although I do believe Manton is has been
internet-wronged more by fnb.com then the other way around but anyway, the point I am trying to make is that it's only clothes, it really does not matter. Talking about Vanners will not get you any dates nor pay your mortgage. Also, quite frankly, very few people other than you two actually give a sh*t. Live and let live, at the end of the day, it's all pretty meaningless.

I fear I've never reached such lofty heights, much less been issued credentials.

Withdrawn.

Children fear to tread where giants walk.

Edit; Now i have to put the darn thing back. Here it is:
Since I enjoy watching the bickering, I have a personal stake in seeing your diplomacy fail. Nonetheless, if the principal parties really do prefer consigning themselves to a life of dull harmonious coexistence to the joyful challenge of insulting each other for our amusement, I suggest the peace be a cross-forum pact, universally applied. It will make the world a duller place, but at least you will be happy.

I really dispute this analysis, strongly.

This is not a two-way fued, at least it is not one that I want to have, and certainly not one that I relish as much as FNB does. I have not started a site called "manton.com" dedicated to trashing him. Nor will I.

I guess it is getting tiresome, even for me, but he picks fights with me about about six times a day, whereas I never start one with him. Playground explanation, to be sure, but not therefore false.

I tried ignoring him. I said absolutely nothing about him or his site for three long years. Three years. Even during all the time I was silent, he still did it, virtually every day.

Now, if someone did that to you, wouldn't you eventually say "To hell with it," and hit back?

Which part of my analysis did your post address? I can't even tell what you disagree with.
On the other hand I suggested that for any "truce" to work, it would have to apply there as well as here which seems to be your point, too.

When I read that I instantly thought that that would be harder to enforce than Israeli-Palestinian ceasefires.

No, that is not my point. If the crud were confined to his site, and never dragged here, that would satisfy me just fine. As it is, I can sense that my responding to FNB's digs is starting to wear on people, so I am probably going to have to stop. But I guarantee you that his digs will not stop. They will go on and on and on. I wonder if he would stop if I got hit by a truck. I doubt it. He seems too invested in it.
