It will be more a matter of strength - the laser cutter doesn't adjust in the Z-axis while cutting. Calibration and what not would be a problem to get very specific and accurate pattern. Therefore, my thinking was that I would engrave some form of abstract line-pattern over the entire shoe - it wouldn't be a remake of some sort of traditional brogueing.
I have a pair of old burgundy Johnston & Murphy Aristofroft wingtips that don't get enough wear. Perhaps they will look better with an etched grid onto them, haha.
