I know its been done by the likes of G&G et al, but has anyone tried etching a pattern onto their existing shoes?

Since I have access to laser cutters, I've been toying with the idea of laser etching a pattern into some existing boring plain-toe shoes I have that never get enough wear. Perhaps etch a segment of a 7-fold quasi-periodic tiling pattern, or even some really interesting constructions of 10-fold symmetry. Anyway, it would be a custom pattern, rather dense. Has anyone tried this?

get some from the thrift store to give yourself plenty of practice before attempting on anything of value.

+1. However I am still interested to hear about how it goes and see pictures of the results. I would second the recommendation of trying this on another pair of very cheap shoes first. Let us know how it goes for you.

Well, I WILL be trying it on a pair of cheap shoes first. Duh. I might try it later today, see how it turns out.

I would prefer you take them to you local tattoo artist and see what he can do with them. I think the laser broguing on Lobbs looks meek.

I don't see the harm in trying this, particularly as it'll be a practice test on some old, crummy shoes. If it works, great, if not, it won't matter then.
