What does a fresh from the tree olive taste like?

uh, maybe there was a misunderstanding what was meant by "fresh". iblack olives are bitter without curing, green olives, under-ripe olives, are full of chemicals (glycosides) that are absolutely tongue twisting. green olives that have been cured but not seasoned can be very good.

Exactly why I used olives as an example of food you never find fresh. They have to be processed.

I don't eat any of these.

Other than the corn I grow myself.

Almonds

You can't find fresh almonds where you are? We get them much of the spring here. One of my favorite things. For years I only saw them when I was in Europe, but maybe three or four years ago, the nut guys started bringing them to all the markets. Something must have happened.

You can get them at WF but they aren't widely available. Remember that I live in the mid west.

Surprised no one mentioned eggs--- I am fortunate to be able to get them if I take a short drive to the country.

The last really good peach I had was about 15 years ago from a roadside stand between San Jose and Carmel. You cannot get good peaches in Texas today. I've even tried buying them from farmers...no good. When I was a kid you could get good peaches everywhere. Sadly, no more.

In my experience, good fresh eggs are often widely available at farmers markets, green markets and co-ops.

I was on vacation in the Mediterranean once and there was an almond tree nearby. They were super delicious, but the pods or whatever were a son of a ***** to crack open. I think I resorted to smashing them with rocks like a friggin' chimpanzee.

If you are in New Britain, CT, stop in the Broad St. neighborhood. Major hardcore Polish shops with fresh pickles. I suppose Chicago must have some spots too. Also I've seen Raw Milk only once and found it by accident!! I was driving through Spokane and see these signs for ogranic stuff and see RAW Milk. I pulled in and bought a $7 half gallon. Tasted like Milk.

Really??? There's several great peach centers in Texas, but of course they'd be a day's drive from Dallas: Fredericksburg and Pittsburg.
