I lol'ed when that became apparent. This often happens. The supporting character becomes bigger than a main character. IMO, their problem was probably casting. Eric just has a much more commanding physicality than Bill, so it was sort of bound to happen. I know they needed to cast Eric like that, from what they've let drop about his pre-Vamp life. They should have casted someone of equal physicality as Bill.
