I did a search on this and didn't find very much hence the post. I have an interview coming up for an internship position with a large public relations and marketing company in Los Angeles that represents celebrities and entertainers among other things. Should I wear a suit or just a shirt/tie? If I go with the suit ensemble I'm thinking of a blue pinstripe suit with a white shirt with light blue stripes, a blue/grey paisley tie, and brown shoes. Any thoughts on this matter?

The receptionist at one of the largest entertainment firms in LA a couple years ago routinely wore a purple skirt. And was male.

Dress fashionably in a style that suits you.

If you have the suit and it fits well, wear it. Otherwise, shirt and tie are fine.

"shirt and tie" are NOT fine for an interview. What the heck are you guys thinking?

Wear a suit and tie, don't wear it like it was an accounting interview. Break out the pocket square, the stripes, whatever your inner dandy likes.

I once interviewed in shorts and a horizontal striped shirt.

I was hired.

LA is a little different, it's PR/marketing and he's fresh outta school. Most people will understand if he doesn't have a suit.

Haha. Actually I'm still in college

But this thread has definitely got my confidence up about rockin' a sharp suit. I'm definitely going to be bold as it's in Beverly Hills of all places. I was more worried about being overdressed. Now I'm excited, and the fact that I like wearing tailored suits helps.

Uh, you've received some questionable advice. Being noticed as "dressed up" very possibly might hurt you. Solid-colored suit, solid white shirt, and conservative tie. You can go somewhat slim if you like. A mid-gray, instead of navy or charcoal, for the suit might be okay. Just in case "conservative" might work against you.

If you're worried about being overdressed, wear the suit and no tie. If you want to go the extra mile, see what brands in the fashion world this firm reps, look at what style they're pushing, and go with that.

nice pants, tucked in button up shirt if its located in beverly hills or santa monica. maybe a blazer, but its too hot for that now and you'd look out of place.

suit and tie if its in century city, but be more conservative about it.

I'm gonna guess William Morris; that's Beverly Hills. I'd say conservative colors and patterns with fashion forward cuts and styling in general. Suit is almost a must.

The heat is an issue, maybe rock a vest instead? I just wouldn't depend on the "I'm in college"part to excuse a lack of dress.
