I'm going to try a Chaps silk/wool (55/45) blend in tobacco this year. It has a full lining so it might be too hot but it is a pretty open weave. I have a Michael Kors blue blazer with pewter buttons that is summer weight, too. I'm just too big this year to fit into the Banana Republic olive cotton sports coat this year. Maybe in it again next year.

I don't look good in real light colors so I'm still experimenting.

I wouldn't call this my "workhorse cotton jacket", as I'm still trying to figure out what to best wear it with...any suggestions??

I tried out the argyle sweater combination because it was still a bit chilly outside last week, but it's much warmer now, and it may be too hot soon (it's a bit too thick for summer use)..

I apologize for the poor pictures...:embar:

I am pretty much on the cusp of placing the OP back under my protection.

Ninja,

Because your jacket is light blue, pairing with other bright colors gives you a circus clown look.
It is a very 1980s vibe. You might want to try pairing that jacket with more muted shirts.
That sweater is just way too loud and outdated. Burn it.

The jacket has potential.
Try pairing it with a pink or white oxford, and lighter pants.

Agree with the sweater being outdated and the jacket with potential. Khaki will look good with it too.

Last summer, it was all linen pants and untucked SS shirts. Maybe dress shoes. I think this year, I will incorporate a cotton jacket into my summer rotation. Ideas? How about some pictures? What would you suggest as a staple cotton or linen jacket? I'm not sure about the khaki look. Does anyone go with cotton navy, or do you stick the light colors? What's the one you wear the most often? Posting links to any suggestions and ideas is very much appreciated ... Also, what do you wear underneath? A lighter gauge (casual) dress shirt? I think it's easier to be considered overdressed in the summer with a getup like this.... with everyone else ultra casual. It's tough enough pulling off pants when everyone's in shorts... LL Bean for $135 ? http://www.llbean.com/llbeansignatur...tn&cat4=505930

Personally I prefer a ligher weight wool even in the Summer. It's just as comfortable and doesn't seem to get wrinkled.

My go-to summer jackets are (1) an air force blue jacket in lightweight wool with a basketweave pattern, half-lined (I wear this year-round because I like the fit), (2) a light blue wool/linen/silk blend in a herringbone weave, again half-lined, and (3) a cream Dupioni silk jacket with a herringbone weave. The silk jacket wears much warmer than I would like and the wool/linen/silk blend is somewhat delicate, but I like them all. I also have a brown linen jacket (RL called it tan) that I never wear because I'm not fond of the color.

The above poster who recommended brightly colored shirts with patterns like gingham to spice up a cream jacket is exactly right. NOBD, I really like your pictures in this thread; you're well-put-together in all of them.

I like a dark linen or cotton jacket at times. I don't think one has to stick to lighter colors at all. This is something I threw together recently. The jacket is a modestly priced Rocha, John Rocha piece from a local department store. I think it looks great in summer.

The sweater has a 1980's vibe because it is from the 1980's :D it was in my father's closet..... but I guess I can't rock it :brick:

Thanks for the advice, Reevolving and jamesny!

You might be able to rock it, just not with that jacket.

I have to say the jacket is good except for the shorts - opt for some slacks instead.
