See I was going to go with totally trashing total strangers' bespoke on a clothing forum. It's much better than actually trying your own bespoke.

Saw the sonics when they came through NYC.
they still had it!

During the process of making clothing for customers, I enjoy showing fabrics that i think are special.
I like pulling out buttons that will give the shirt a little extra nuance.

Where do you get your buttons?

And the fun part is hearing other people say "Where did you get that fabric" and "Why didn't I think of that?".

while I am a novice, I am discovering that A is more enjoyable for me -- though not by much.

If it's not B then it sounds like maybe you've been slightly disappointed with your results so far? I've seen that sentiment before on SF- some people who don't get exactly what they want at the end justify the bespoke choice by saying the 'experience' and the customization was more fun than the final product. Not entirely irrational, especially considering there are so many poor bespoke tailors out there; but give it time and I bet you'll find the right one.

I just specify what types of pockets I want and that's pretty much it. I don't get into details of lining, buttons, special James Bond hidden pockets, gorge height, vent length, armhole diameter, pick stitching, etc... like some other people I see here who spend weeks designing a suit. If that makes them happy, great. But I don't particularly enjoy getting into those details.

I have bought buttons from some of the usual sources Italy and hong kong.
i bought some great river pearl buttons that have been dyed an assortment of great colors.
these are used more for women then men as they do not have rims.

I have bought most of my buttons from the inventory of someone in who was in the business, who is now in pest control. these butons are at least 20 years old.
i also bought from a woman a large box of mop buttons that came from her grandfathers upstate shirt factory. these are at least 60 years old.
even bought some that from a company in muscatineIowa. these buttons may be over 70 years old. the shapes on these are very inconsistant.
I think Mauro bought a large chunk of these.

I don't know, I can sort of relate to what Foo is saying....or at least what I think he is saying resonated with me. With many purchases that I would consider part of a 'hobby' in one way or another it is the obsessive pursuit of the idea that is more enjoyable that the realization of the idea itself.

By SF standards, you are very generous to your tailor.

I picked lining and buttons on my first couple of suits, then later realized that the tailor did a better job than I at picking them, so why bother?

Not true, I feel alot of people enjoy the process as much or more as the final product.
