I'm leaning towards the silver oxide and dark matte at this point. The gold and regular silver buttons, although are very traditional, just seem a little too flashy/ostentatious for me.

And definitely no horn buttons, I want to keep it somewhat of a tradition by using metal buttons.

It would be useful to find the age groups that recommend brass vs. horn. I can't see a young guy finding brass to be all that cool, even if it's the conventional choice. My compromise has been silver tone, although for my next one I'm considering switching the buttons for horn.

+1

Brown horn on a blue/navy blazer/sport coat looks smashing, especially on younger fellows. Gold/silver etc. buttons look best on older gentlemen IMHO.

So if it means anything, I am 31 years old. So I'm not super young, but not gray haired either.

Gold would be my first choice, but it sounds like silver oxide will work best for you.

I like the silver oxide. But if the crest on the buttons is not your own, do not wear the buttons. You're best off finding plain metal buttons.

I'm thirty and I voted for gold. Everyone needs a classic blaszer with gold buttons. I have plenty of sport coats with other buttons on them.

It only looks "old man" if it fits like ****.

Nautical? I have one in silver and people thought I was a pilot when I took it in for further alterations.

I went to a local fabric store and picked up some of these buttons:

They are silver, but not so flashy. They were really cheap too, about $9 for the whole set. What do you guys think?

I like them- especially since they had to be metal - they are subtle, and remind me of my school blazer many years ago ;D (kidding)

The proof of course, is always in the wearing
