Where to stay in San Francisco (cheap)?

I need a vacation. Was thinking about NYC, but I'm aiming for mid-late Feb and would prefer to be there when the weather is warmer. So now I'm thinking SF - no potential for blizzards.

Any recommendations on a place to stay for ~$100/night?

You might want to check out the Hotel Beresford, which is small, friendly, unpretentious, located within a few blocks of Union Square, and has rooms close to the price point you're after.

I've stayed at the Travel Lodge. It's kinda crappy, but for going out, it's right in the heart of everything.

Cheap, too.

I've stayed in Grosvenor Suites, few blocks up from Union Square. The rooms are large, and the rates are superb.

Cheap hotels in SF can be rather scary.

With hotel occupancy rates down, I'm sure you can get an inexpensive room at a reasonable hotel (comfort inn or hilton).

If you come mid-January you can make the SF meetup featuring LabelKing and Socal.

Seriously, SOMA has come a long way, but the hotels are still real flea traps. And the Tenderloin is as bad as it ever was, and seems to be encroaching ever further into downtown.

I don't know how you'll be traveling or if you'll have transportation, but every time the SO and I go to SF, we stay at a cute little B&B overlooking the bay in Point Richmond called Casita by the Bay.

It doesn't seem to be listed anywhere anymore, or I'd link you, but consider something like that. (Odd, though -- we were just there a couple of months ago.)

Bed and breakfasts are often a better deal in SF than hotels. Check out the California B and B website for options.
