Where to get extremely basic white button up shirts?

Standard white button up shirts: I cannot believe how difficult it has become to find new, bog standard white button up shirts with a regular collar. I'm not looking for spear point, vintage, or anything fancy, just a base to wear everything vintage and non- atop. Every. Single. Store I go to only has spread collars. It's an epidemic. Again, not looking for anything unique in any direction, literally the plain Jane type of white shirts you used to be able to get at Macy's, JC Penney, Sears, anywhere... Unfortunately I'd like to avoid online just because there are so many small things I like to check in person, so that avenue is not an option (yet!) Thoughts?

In terms of widely available stores, maybe J. Crew?

Charles Tyrwhitt definitely has "plain" dress shirts with middle-of-the-road collars as well but I'm not sure they have many brick and mortar stores (there's one in NYC I know).

I am pretty sure you can still get dress shirts at Macy's and JC Penney's if you just want a standard, regular off the rack dress shirt.

so maybe it would help if you told us where you live (or travel to on a regular basis)?

And can you show us an example of what you mean by a "regular" collar?
Southern California.

Here is the sort of collar I mean. Maybe even a bit narrower (and yes, I'm looking at JAB as an option, albeit online)...

CT were my previous go-tos. But even their most fitted shirts crumple and fold all over.

Re: J Crew, hah, a single shirt on that site has a point collar. I'll go check them out, but I'm skeptical. Looking at their site shows one exactly what I mean :\.

Nope. Went to both. Everything was spread collar. Everything. (Well, even if it wasn't, it was some super thin synthetic material that looked awful. Not standard white cotton or at least a close blend.

Spread collar is pretty standard now. Do you not like it because you do not wear ties? With a tie, the spread collar looks pretty great. Just trying to understand the motivation. Also, lots of online MTM shirting options that you can use replicate your favorite shirt. I use proper cloth and they are amazing.

Spread just doesn't look good with many of my vintage outfits, most of which go from 30s to 50s. Yes, I could go MTM, but for time and cost I was hoping to just pick something up off the rack.

Sounds good. For the record, my MTM from Proper Cloth takes about a week from the time I order to the time it arrives in my office. So not a bad turn around and the process is very simple.

This is the answer.

You want a specific type of collar, well, go to Proper Cloth and select the collar you want and order the shirt you want.

Certainly easier than going anywhere.

I've learned that going MTM will save you a lot of time and unnecessary costs in the long run. My supplier of choice is Kamakura Shirts. Their service and guidance is outstanding and they have four basic models that you can fully costumize in terms of measurements, fabrics, collar and cuff style. Depending on the fabric prices start at $150.
