Why does Joshua Tree have special meaning to you?

My (extended) family's ranch in the high desert of Arizona. I spent a lot of time there as a kid.

At the time there was no electricity, but I still managed to have a great time. Where I learned to ride horses, shoot a gun, bale hay, brand cattle, build fences, etc.

Mine would be Ancient Egypt along the Nile. Of all the places I've been and seen in the world, and that would be at least 28 different countries at last count, none of them compare in the slightest to the mysticism that surrounds this area. I can never say I've had an out-of-body experience about any other place in the world like I have had witnessing the larger-than-life statues and obelisks, and catacombs and crypts rich with ancient hieroglyphics and scriptures in the Luxor and Aswan areas. The ancient pyramids at Giza, while being magnificent and worthy of a trip to Cairo alone, really have nothing on the full gamut of history further up the Nile. It really is the experience of a lifetime.

i've heard that the presence of KFC really diminishes the power of the pyramids

there aren't any establishments on the actual grounds of the great pyramids for preservation purposes from my understanding, there may be something like this off in the distance at street-level, but you're talking thousands of feet or perhaps miles away in the distance. it would really have no effect on the experience, and once you actually set foot inside the great pyramids you get the feeling that you've left earth and are in another world. it sounds crazy i'm sure, but it's hard to describe it any other way as that is exactly what it feels like.

that's far away as ****! you have no idea of the actual size of the great pyramids unless you've stood right in front of them, pictures are a mere laughing matter. the individual blocks are taller than an average person's height and you can see them far up into the sky from the base.
