First of all, that's not a pea coat. Just a navy coat. Pea coats are traditionally double breasted.

That said, the coat seems pretty versatile. You could wear it with trousers, jeans, cords. Perhaps a bit too casual to wear over a suit.

I'm not sure I get the pirate reference from Twotone.

+1 Not a peacoat, but it seems it would go with just about anything

Forget buying that rubbish.

Head to ebay and find yourself a genuine US Navy-issue peacoat, preferably pre-1968 when they came with corduroy lining in the pockets.

I just picked up a 45 year old US Navy issue peacoat for $65, and after dry-cleaning you couldn't tell it wasn't brand new. The quality of those old peacoats ***** all over the rubbish sold today at three or four times the price.

Agreed. I picked up a '78-era coat for $35 shipped, then spent that much again getting the sleeves lengthened. It is my favorite piece of outerwear. For $70 I now have a coat that fits me perfectly and will wear out in approximately NEVER.

That said, it is black. If you prefer navy, a judicious search of threads past would have led you to Sterlingwear of Boston, where you can get such a thing in a pretty high-quality garment.
