I am travelling home to my country after a year and I am wondering what I should be taking for my mum and my little brother. Any ideas?

Cheese indeed is a good idea. Maybe wine. Maybe chocolat. Maybe some craftsmanship. Maybe cosmetics. Maybe other sweets.
You should know best what your mother and little brother like and what you are willing to pay.

Aside from food (which is always a good thing"”for me, at least), it would be nice to bring home something useful for your mom and brother. Perhaps something your mom could use in the kitchen? Or something your brother could use at school? It really is up to you since you would know what their preferences are... but something that could be of use to them is a really practical present.
