If you're going in July/August you'll be there during Saldi (big sale period that happens twice a year in Italy) and might be able to find some pretty decent prices on clothes.

Disregard, should have read the original post again.

Grab some gellato at night and eat it sitting in the courtyard outside the uffizi. One of my unforgettable little moments in Florence.

Yep, that square where all of the statues are (I forgot its name) is a wonderful place. I did the exact same thing you did.

Also, in Florence there is a leather-working school that you must go to.

If you're there for two weeks, rent yourself a car with a GPS in it. You will be able to explore this beautiful region at its fullest. The GPS is essential!

Do some researching on restaurants before you go out to eat. Florence is filled with food that, while not bad - i've never had bad food in italy, is rather lackluster.

Go in all the churches you can find!

Make a trip up to Fiesole, perhaps even stay there a night.

BTW, where's Manton's recommendation on this subject? Surely an expert on the Prince should have a say in this.
