Given how tacky or lacking in taste most weddings are, I am thinking it would be perfectly louche to wear a black turtleneck underneath a well-cut suit. I am envisioning a '60s variety of slim suit such as described by Hardy Amies in his ABCs coupled with a black turtleneck of sorts, and black Cuban heeled Chelseas. It would make you look like someone who owns several reel-to-reel machines in his pad instead of someone who went to the local Men's Wearhouse last week.

Where do ruffled front tuxedo shirts fit in?

Ruffled formal shirts are only for funerals.

I am not planning to attend any weddings, but I did wear a variation of that outfit recently, with a bone-colored suede trenchcoat and brown suit.

It is far more degenerate these days to wear a necktie for non-formal occasions.

But can one get a fused black turtleneck that is two sizes too big and has notch lapels and matching 'pooling' trousers? Methinks not, and therein lies the fatal flaw in your otherwise masterly plan.

The presupposition here, of course, is that everything will fit well.

However, I cannot and will not abide mock-necks.

Is this the antithesis to Manton's own "Wedding Attire" thread?

Black turtleneck with a double breasted glen plaid suit, preferably flannel, would probably fit the bill quite well. Of course Ralph has already rocked that look in the early Purple Label ads, but it isn't exactly a common look none the less.

Even if it were still the 60's that outfit would be inappropriate for a wedding. The whole idea screams thanks for the cash bar I left my gift on the table. Or something to that affect.

I've seen people do this, they tend to look like FOB's
