Wearing belt looped dress trousers, without a belt

Hi All,

I am going to the theatre tomorrow night and wearing a midnight blue suit, white shirt, black tie with white pin dot, and black oxfords.

However I do prefer trousers without a belt especially a boring black belt.

Is it acceptable to wear my belt looped trewsers beltless at such an event, or terribly uncouth?

I will get side tabs fitted in future!

Your call. I would think if someone was to even notice they might think you forgot to put a belt on. I wouldn't do it.

im rocking that style today; only because the pants fit very well and im wearing a sweater that covers the belt area anyway.

Glenn O'Brien thinks it is a faux pas...personally, as long as the waist is a snug fit, i go without a belt most of the time when i wear my suits. although, there is one pair of plaid trousers that i have that needs a slim black belt, otherwise it doesn't look right...

Naked belt loops look wrong to me but if you are wearing a suit who will see? Keep your jacket buttoned until the lights go down!

Ive done this before because my suit pants are exactly the right size. However, 2 out of 3 times, someone will point out to me that I forgot my belt.

The waist is a great fit, so a belt is not needed, however my instinct is that people will see it as "forgot his belt" rather than a choice I've made. You guys have confirmed my thoughts.

I shall wear the belt tomorrow and see about getting side tabs put on the pants asap.

I think this looks very funny. If you don't want to wear a belt, have the loops removed.

I almost never wear a belt. If the pants fit, and I am wearing a jacket I don't need that bulge from the buckle ruining the lines of the jacket. Now, without a jacket and a shirt tucked in...yes, I wear a belt.

Your instinct is correct. Even when people wear braces ... if their trousers have belt loops, it appears this way ... unless for some reason one sees the braces.

Too true, I have a friend who wears braces all the time. His Tailor must suck as they add the buttons but leave the loops.

IMNTHO, it's acceptable if worn with suspenders under a jacket. It looks much less bad if the pants have an extended waistband closure.

It's fine, especially if you're wearing braces. With most of my trousers the belt loops are positioned at the pleat so that if one sees the loops they also see the braces. In normal wearing I don't think the loops are exposed very often.
