Your title drew my attention.

After being in a 12 step progeram for 27+ years, I have seen this happen to many, many people.

Including rich and famous people as well as homeless people.

The end stages of addiction/alcoholism are not a pretty picture. But it is an equal opportunity affliction and strikes all types.
