Wash oxford cloth before making the shirt

Hi, I asked a shirtmaker to increase some of my measurements for an OCBD I am about to order due to the shrinkage that occurs with the Oxford fabric, and he suggested washing the fabric prior to making the shirt to reduce the effect of shrinkage. Any opinions on pre-washing the fabric before making the shirt?

Definitely worth doing.

But you should expect it will shrink more after the shirt is made up. How much that will be isn't clear and will depend on the cloth itself. Oxfords are tricky like that. In any case washing the cloth beforehand will minimise subsequent shrinkage in length.

Some shirting is sold pre-washed (PS Oxford). Some shirtmakers will wash. If yours says do it I see no harm. Ask if he wants you to iron it.
