The etched BL was put on the lenses in about 1970. The first use of the white Ray Ban signature on the BL etched lenses was in 1982 and I believe it was used up to or through 1999. I cannot tell in your photos if the signature is white or gold. The gold Ray Ban signature was used starting in the 1990s. The Ray Ban signature on the lenses was not used until 1982 so if someone tries to say that Ray Ban glasses with the signature at the top of the lenses is vintage 60s or 70s, it's not true. I prefer the earlier glasses without the signature but have found in resale that some buyers want the status of the signature logo.

Jimmy74's aviators look like they may have had the large brow bar removed. There should be B&L RAY BAN USA stamped on the existing brow bar. You might miss it without using a magnifier.

Hi,
I seen someone before with a pair of vintage rayban aviators on. They had flip up lenses to go between plain lenses and tinted. It also had a leather bridge along the top and gold frames. I asked them where they got them from and they replied “charity auction”. I asked my mate and he stated they were one of a kind and very valuable . Is there anything similar out there that I can purchase ?

These are not one of a kind glasses. If you are diligent in your search, you can find them.

Hey B&L lovers. I’m currently finding my first perfect vintage B&L WayFarer. I found one online that looks perfect to me. The only thing that bothers me is the BL etch that’s on the middle of the top on the lense as you can see ( zoom the first photo so you can clearly notice, I also requested some more photos from the logos so we can check). From my deep research today I only found aviators that have BL logo on this place, those are the first wayfarer I’ve seen, but this is also green light that this pair might be reallt rare. I also want to ask if you have more informations about the year of this pair.
have a good day everyone!

Sorry, I can’t speak to the authenticity of these sunglasses, but I’m wondering why you’re so interested in them. They’re in really rough condition, obviously. I’m just curious what the attraction is. And what’s the seller’s explanation for the modern-era accessories? I hope they aren’t saying they came with these particular sunglasses.

I can get them for really good price, by the way the ones that are mind condition go really expensive online. This are in my opinion 8/10 which is great. The glasses don’t have scratches, only the frames.

Here are some more photos that could help us for the authentication.

I am a self proclaimed expert on Bausch and Lomb aka Vintage Ray Bans. I have a degree in Vintage Ray Ban Eyewear, if you need help or have a question this is the place to get answers. I also buy them if you have a pair or more you want to sell. Cheers.
Greetings and salutations. I have a pair of B&L vintage tortoise Ambermatic Vagabonds for which I need replacement temples. I tried some of the new Italian temples and the knuckle spacing on the hinges do not match. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance. Jim

Hello there. I went to a goodwill in California and happened to find these "B&L Ray Ban" Sunglasses for only $2.50. I have been trying to find them online, but cannot seem to find any. I stumbled onto a youtube video that was explaining how to know when your Ray Bans were from and it seems that these would be from 1975-1999. I found some similar pairs on Ebay that were titled with the color "Big Cherry Red," which is the same color of this pair, but they were more of a round frame shape. These are pretty heavy and I could tell as soon as I picked them up, that they were not your typical goodwill sunglasses. On the inside it says "B&L Ray Ban/ Frame France" which I have not been able to find online as well. I was going to see if you think these are authentic or not, and possibly have any information on them! Thanks so much.

No, the letters give you a place to start. The 12k 1/10 GF (Gold Fill) denotes that 1/10 of the metal frame is 12k, forming the exterior gold plating. Of course, B&L is Bausch & Lomb.

That is literally the only markings on the glasses. It is believed my father bought these in Naples Italy while in the Navy '53-'55 (Korean war).
