Non-footwear violation, but I need to challenge @CWOyaji and his thrifting skills.

I present to you my $3 Seiko Japanese market chronograph from 1969. First chrono I've ever found, and I found it on accident at a small charity thrift store here that hasn't sold me anything for at least a year. When she told me the price I nearly tripped over myself in my rush to get my money out of my wallet.

I'm sure this will never happen to me again so I have to gloat while I have the chance.

Cool watch. You're gonna enjoy some next level pain when you service that thing. Movement complications piled on top of movement complications.

Yeah why not gloat? Never stopped me. Being the first edition of an automatic watch from 1969 is pretty cool. Does it run? I think the crystal could be buffed cleaner if you want to wear it, but I'm not an expert on that.

Automatic watch is best watch. Here's my nominee. Has barely left my wrist every waking moment since 1998.

Yeah why not gloat? Never stopped me. Being the first edition of an automatic watch from 1969 is pretty cool. Does it run? I think the crystal could be buffed cleaner if you want to wear it, but I'm not an expert on that.

It does run but will need a thorough cleaning and oiling. And @wasmisterfu is right. I'm going to question my life choices when I tear into it for a service. AND since I've been batting a 0.000 on servicing shockproof balance movements lately (I think I've got three or four with missing jewels or destroyed shock springs because of my clumsiness) I'll set this one aside until my luck improves.

I've been eyeballing Pagani for a while. Prices are amazing for Seiko movement automatics. And guys who wear them, rave about the brand.

I wish I could help you with Pagani, but I don't know anything about them. The GP, however, I hear is an amazing watch. I have a Perfex, which is a GP off-brand, and I really like it.

I grabbed these this evening from Goodwill. They were 50% off $6.99. I can't make out a maker's name, but the sock liner says Sahara Oxfords.

They're a 9E, so I can't wear 'em. And they're suede, which I don't have experience with, so I'm not sure what I'm gonna do with them.

Both where I grew up, and where I live now, wearing shoes inside one's home is pretty much unheard of. It's barefoot or maybe indoor fabric slippers:

So -any- going out is a reason to wear real shoes -- to the office (maybe 2 or 3 times a week these days), to the supermarket, or just to run necessary errands.

Life is short. Wear dress shoes ✌

The pandemic has made it tough to enjoy my collection other than my nightly visits with it to do some unnecessary maintenance, which is my way of unwinding. We don’t wear shoes in the house. We did when I was a kid but my college friends, many of whom are from Hawaii, and my East Asian friends in the Bay Area helped me see why I should either go barefoot or have a dedicated pair of house shoes (which could be a pair of indoor-only 93605s... I’m just sayin’). So, a trip to Traders Joe’s or Costco has meant donning some sweet vintage kicks and garnering crooked looks from Bay Area folks who turned dressing down into dressing up well before COVID-19. I refuse to go that route.

Nah, I'm just an amateur. This guy however is one of the kinh, and had Bedo's take apart a pair of brand new Alden Ravello shell LWBs and remake them to his own specs. That is a power move. FF to 30:08.

I saw that. Awesome but also a little crazy. That’s now a $1k pair of shoes.

I think these need a little more conditioning and brushing, but the fit is great.

When disassembling or assembling an escapement that has an incabloc style shock absorption setup, the trick is to go, very, very slowly. Actually, that's true for any movement. The trick is always to go very, very slowly.

I wish I could help you with Pagani, but I don't know anything about them. The GP, however, I hear is an amazing watch. I have a Perfex, which is a GP off-brand, and I really like it.

My late father didn't go to thrift stores. But he always had some really nice watches. My grandpa was a fan of Omega which my brother took.

The GP is a gyromatic but it runs 5 minutes fast every day. I asked an horologist about fixing it. He offered to buy it from me, which I will never sell. Maybe one day I will get it fixed.

@wasmisterfu mentioned that GP has great stuff. Me, I'm more a Seiko range kinda guy.
