Pretty cool. Pardon my ignorance, but I wonder how that compares to some of the higher end more handmade brands such as EG, G&G, JL, etc. I would assume that Ferragamos are probably made similarly to these.

Which line from Ferragamos? Not all Ferragamos are created equal. They range from junk to high quality.

The same is also true for Testoni.

The higher in the line you generally go, the more hand work that gets done. An example of this is how they just glued on a ready made sole to that shoe. A higher end shoe would have the sole put on as a raw piece and then worked to the desired shape.

I would guess much of the Ferragamo line is made like this.

spot the difference. A few things looks different to me.

The soles doesnt look Goodyear to me, but more like blake, which would be standard in most Italian shoes. So not what most English makers would do.

I can also see several difference based on my limited knowledge. Essentially , there is several process which can be done by hand, e.g. the sewing, putting the upper onto the last. Also I saw that the upper is glued to the lining. Not sure if this is done is higher end shoes.

That burning of leather seems rather brutal. I think Lobb leaves their shoes on the last for 5 days for the upper to take the right form.

Finally, there are tons of details that would make the difference between the good and the excellent, like sewing with pig bristles.

OK, someone more knowlegable take over!
