Was at Lioni's on 15th Ave yesterday to pick up some fresh mozz and chicken for the week...walk in, and who is there, fully suited up, eating a sangwich, none other than Tony Bennett. Effing awesome...just your typical saturday afternoon in Dyker Heights. Should have taken my pic with him...oh well.

Almost walked into film director John Landis outside Fortnum and Mason in London the weekend before last.

I believe he's here to shoot the Burke and Hare film with Simon Pegg.

I've been a film buff for years, and have always liked his movies. As soon as I saw him I recognised him.

It probably helped that, other than his beard greying, he hasn't really changed much since the '80s. It looks like he's worn the same pair of Moscot-type glasses since he was in his 20s!

I always suspected Mitt Romney had a portrait hidden somewhere.

my favorite: in the old days at Spago: sitting in teh A section with a 6-top beside us that stood empty for most of the night. Kept wondering who could be important enough that they would hold such a hot table for so long. Finally, in walks BRIAN KEITH with a sleazy-looking French guy and four filipina hookers ... plastic miniskirts and all. I wanted to go "hey, uncle bill!". i love la.

I used to work as the house photographer at a big club here in Toronto and I met a random assortment of celebrities including Cyndi Lauper, 50 Cent, T-Pain, Wycleff, Q-Tip, Questlove, Nelly, Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Leighton Meester, Chace Crawford, Lloyd Banks, David Guetta, Jude Law, Richard Branson, Sean Paul, Tiesto, Funkmaster Flex, Perez Hilton, and Im sure there were more. I have a portfolio up at http://www.jessbaumung.com if you would like to see photos of those people.

I was at the Atlanta airport and two of the WWE "Divas" were there. One had blond hair the other brown. Have no idea what their names are. There were apparently several dudes who knew about their arrival as a bunch of folks had belts and signs for autographing. There were more people waiting than the combined number of teeth in their heads. I say that with only a slight exaggeration. There was also some old dude with bleached hair and a paunch who was part of their entourage.

I've had a number because I grew up in Palm Beach, but these are the three weirdest.

1. I delivered flowers to Zha Zha Gabor in high school, but they weren't for her. They were for a dog "wedding" taking place later that day

2. A friend of mine was in rehab and had a "visit" day. His wife had left when he went on his 2 week binge, and hadn't made it back from her parent's house yet due to bad weather. I felt bad and went. In there with him were three VERY famous professional wrestlers - I've never watched wrestling in my life, and I recognized all 3 of them. Apparently they all get addicted to pain killers. I'm not going to mention names, but it was pretty surprising.

3. I knew River Phoenix in college. He was a local, sort of, his parents were hippies that lived about 30 miles from the University of Florida (hence the name "River," and siblings "Leaf" a.k.a. Joaquin, "Summer," and "Rain."). Anyway, knowing him was not so weird because everyone in our little "scene" seemed to, and he was a nice enough guy. He was a pretty typical Gainesville, on-the-scene, sort-of hippie musician, and everyone spent a lot of time pretending they didn't know he was famous.

The weird encounter was this: I was in LA and I called him - this was probably around a year before he died. We played phone tag, missed each other at least twice, and I figured I was getting the high hand or he was really wasted (the idea that no one knew he did drugs before he died was completely absurd). I actually didn't know him super-well, but he had dated my (female) roommate on and off for years, and was at our house a fair bit. Anyway, out of the blue I get a message from the desk on Sunday morning, I think - he's coming over, wait in the lobby. He shows up around 10:30 am, and he leads me into the kitchen, where Keanu Reeves is cooking a steak? Very odd. This was in 1992. Reeves wasn't too famous back then - I think his "biggest" movie to date had been Point Break.

Guessing it was the hotel kitchen as he was visiting LA?

I think its wicked cool to be hanging out in a hotel kitchen cooking steak at 10:30 am with River Pheonix and Keanu Reeves.
