would anyone be kind enough to educate me on structured, unstructured and partially structured toe? i already done some googling and pretty much understand the broad strokes. now im just hoping to get opinions on what works best on a java waxed flesh cap toe?

After the boots are worn in a bit the toe will look like this if its unstructured . Waxed flesh is a great candidate for an unstructured toe imo

thanks for chiming in! why would u consider it great on waxed flesh? how would it be on others like rough out or cordovan?

Rough out leathers and suede do not wrinkle like grain side fine calf will and many people to not like wrinkles and creases in the toe are of the boots and shoes.

It is all personal preference though, I tend to stay away from unstructured toes while others love them. For me I have a fairly big foot and sometimes a collapsed toes can make the from of the boot look to big or wide for my tatse....again just personal preference

@Shalomp Yes the Viberg 2030 is a natty cxl

Truman is a bit bigger and a touch rounder in the toe. The biggest difference is the outside(pinky toe side) of Vince's last it has a wider gate than the inside(big toe side) were the Viberg 2030 is more uniform. The Dainite Logger sole is just killer and my hat is off to Vince for introducing this to me as I never heard of it before.

In terms of comfort...right out the box actually the Allen Edmonds B34 fits me best and the reason is the mid point of the boot has a touch more room where on Vibergs and even Trumans I can feel where the vamp is looped under on the outside of my left foot...very odd but I think exclusive to me and to the service boot pattern.

If I had to rank them on out of the box comfort - I am a brannok size 13E
AE B34 - size 12
Truman - size 13
Alden Trubalance - size 12(I also have 12.5's to wear thicker socks with)
Viberg 2030 - size 12
Viberg 2045 - size 12

All of these fit me absolutely great and and very happy with them - Viberg's take a little longer to break in due to extremely thick leather in the construction and things like corded sole. As @Vickt here posted who took his Truman on a trip for their initial wears there is no doubt I could do the same with mine even with the logger sole as opposed to the ripple.

Kahuna:

thanks for the pic and write up. I think the shape of the Truman's is really nice. I have a similar shot with a few different lasts/shoes that some may find useful. You even get a shot of my orthotic insert that causes me to not be able to wear some shoes...which sucks!

epaulet trainer 9.5, grant 9.5d, Truman 9 and Barrie 8.5d, ( they all may not be lined up perfectly)

anyone able to do a comparison of brown versus java waxed flesh? found this picture above of brown and was wondering how java stacks up to it. it looks like its been through some wear and has quite a bit of sheen on it. due to the wax or is it just the lighting?
