Topcoats for athletic men with big drop

Gentlemen:

My brother is looking for a cheap/reasonably priced topcoat, but he's got a very athletic build large drop. He has a drop of about 11 or 12 (42-30/31). He's something like 5'8 or 5'9. He bought one from J. Crew, which, not surprisingly, does not fit him in his midsection.

Can anyone recommend something for under $1000 or recommend brands he much search for bargains on?

Thanks.

BS

Except for brands like Dolce & Gabbana or Prada, he'll most likely have to have the waist taken in. Tailors can do this easily with good results.

Is it really essential that a topcoat show off one's figure?

The problem is those are often cut with narrow shoulders so you end up having to size up. You'll end up with the same problem. Having a coat made might make the most sense.

+1. I really should do this to my navy topcoat - it fits great in the shoulders/upper chest, but blows out in the midsection.
