I ahve a very friendly, and helpful super. last christmas I gave him 100 bucks., after being in the aprtment 6 months. its a pre-war apartment, with high ceilings and old light fixtures. a while back, he told me not to change light bulbs myself, but to call him. today I asked him to change some light bulbs, and then asked him if he could install my window air conditioning units - both of which i could do myself, but he is saving me work and sweat. and, officially, I am not allowed to put in window air condtionaing units.

anyway - do I just give him a nice christmas tip, or to I give him a little something (I was thinking maybe $40) now?

Give him $10 or $20 tops and another $100 Xmas. He'll be yours forever.

$20 should be plenty for the AC.

How about a nice case of beer or a nice bottle of booze?

If I was your super, a liter of bourbon would suffice.

If it were me, I would give alcohol instead of money.

+1, next time you talk to him casually ask what he likes to drink, then get a good bottle(s) of whatever that is.

A dude that used to work near my office would hook me up with wholesale prices on car parts - probably saved me $1000+ after I bought new Bilstein shocks/struts all around. I asked him if he drank beer, and as a thank you I got him a 12-pack of Beck's or something else decent and put two huge pre-seasoned rib eyes in the bag with them (very not cheap steak), and left it by his car on the Friday when I picked up some stuff. Next time I talked to him he thanked me for like 5 minutes straight.

(Later got fired for hooking people up under suspicion that he was reselling parts on ebay, but that's beside the point.
