Tie slimming OK... but what about tie widening?

Hello all

Quick question... I read how people recommend Tie Crafters for tie slimming.

But what about tie widening? I see that they actually offer this in their services.

Has anyone actually done this, with good results?

I have a bunch of "slim" ties at the 2.75 inch mark and wouldn't mind widening them a bit to around 3.

Reasonable or just OCD madness?

How many folds are in the tie? If it were a 7 fold tie then there is plenty of spare fabric there to widen it and still leave a properly constructed tie, though now less than 7 folds. If its a 3 fold tie with the typical small third fold I would be concerned about the end product given how little spare fabric there is (arguably none) but then I am sure the company will tell you how they address such issues.

Sure. I've done it several times (with regular 3 fold ties).

But are you really going to pay to have a tie widened by a quarter inch? I'd sleep on it if I were you. Definitely something you will look back on in a few years and shake your head at... I know I now realize how obsessively and unnecessarily precise that was and I would never do that again.
