I will never wear them in public. Gym shower? Sure. Around the house? Ok. At the grocery store? Hell no.

interesting. seems like so far there are plenty of guys in their 20's who hate them but plenty of guys 40+ who don't. one thing i noticed in business school (very international class) was that non-Americans were generally not fans, more so than most American men. obviously we have plenty of US and non-US on both sides of the fence here. despite my love for fine footwear, i still love wearing flops in the summer and being able to kick them on and off at the beach or to feel the grass on my feet in the yard. and yes, even out and about in the city for something casual. +1 for the question about dressing to the nines for grocery getting in the summer or wearing them on vacation in tropical settings.

I don't really wear shorts either. In case it makes a difference.

Sadly, every man and his dog wears them 24/7. I'm surprised I don't see people rocking them to work with their suits around this place. The problem is, they're always cheapo, horrible flip-flops. So many girls wear perfectly decent clothes with disgusting, plastic ones that just ruin everything.

When I'm on the beach at the Gold Coast, I just don't wear shoes (same as everyone else).

That's interesting. I live in mine on the weekends in summer and down the beach. Certainly would never wear them for business or even going to dinner/pub etc.

They are part of our culture in Australia I guess (though we call them thongs not flip flops), and I at least fork out for Havi's. I'm also a runner and take any chance to air my feet out after training I can get.

I think we should all be more worried about those disgraceful Croc's things personally. Now they should actually be illegal to buy they are so bad.

So I have to ask:

Do you ever go to the beach (or anywhere warm)? If so, what do you wear if you don't wear shorts or sandals?

Flip flops are great on the beach , around the pool ...

They look quite good with well-tailored shorts or bermudas...

Pants and shoes. Of course, I don't go to the beach very often, and the beaches around here are mostly pebbles and not sand.

+1. I especially don't get guys/girls wearing them in GTown or somewhere else in the city. Their feet must be filthy by the time they get home.

I wear them to the pool/beach and occasionally out and about.

If you DO take care of your toe nails, you are considered "****"...

I almost never wear shorts, but I'll still throw on flip flops to run somewhere.
I'm 18, but I grew up at the beach... and live at the beach. I'll wear them to the store/coffee/beach/pool/early morning class/etc, but I couldn't wear them to dinner or out or anything where I'd otherwise really care about my appearance.

23, New York. Have not owned a pair since I was a sophomore, and plan on keeping it that way. When I go to the beach I wear boat shoes.

23, wear them relatively often. I live in NorCal and it seemed to be the footwear of choice at my university -- class, around the dorms, etc. I own a pair of Rainbows and wear them around town if dressed casually in shorts/jeans. I would say 60% of the time I dress casually (mall, errands, coffee, shopping, etc) its with flip-flops.

As for going to restaurants, I have no qualms with wearing them to a casual place (think red robin, etc).
