Best I can tell, it's just a place to list out all of your education and work experience while adding friends to a social network that seems more grown-up than Facebook.

I don't get it either. it is an online resume. I don't have one, but I have a friend who works for them who tries to sell it to me a lot. I know she makes pretty damn good money working there too.

I love looking at people's profiles who you work with and reading how they describe what it is they do and I laugh at the romanticizing of it.

I'm on LinkedIn and its exactly that, a grown up version of Facebook. I don't add personal friends just people I know professionally.

Well what are you going to do...describe it in a way that makes your job look ******? I just copied stuff from the profiles of other people who had the same job at my company.

With my new title, I've had some contacts from headhunters (although they aren't the ones that are willing to pay linkedin to contact you as a recruiter...they just try to add you as a friend with a message about what they want to recruit you for). Wasn't clear exactly who they were recruiting for, but I had my guesses as to which firm it was...and I have no interest in jumping ship to a sinking ship...
