I’d go see Taylor Swift if she’d play Shake it Off and that she wears short skirts I wear tshirts song as her first two songs and then I could leave

I forgot that I’ve actually seen her in concert when she performed in Austin for the USGP like 7 years ago

I remember when celebrities had the decency to protect their image, and go overseas to like, Japan if they wanted to do ads and get some side-hustle money.

Idris Elba has been in 98 of the last 100 movies released by my count, so he must have saved at least a couple of bucks.
I'm watching playoff hockey, and every single commercial break he is pimping some AI company.

We were in a work group meeting yesterday and a woman in our group mentioned she was going to a concert that evening. SOmebody asked who she was going to see and she said, The Decemberists and most of the folks in our group just smiled and nodded because at 45, I'm one of the youngest, besides the woman going to the concert and another woman in the group. Somebody else piped up with, "Yeah, none of us know who that is" and I replied that I had seemed them just a few years earlier at the same theatre.

I got back to my desk where I've got a stack of old ticket stubs and actually found the one from that concert but I was off in my estimate by about a doze years. I took a photo and sent it to the work group to prove that I used to be cool. And then she replied by simply saying, "I was in the 4th grade."

Ouch!

St. Andrews and The Shelter. The shows I saw there. Everyone from Tool to Soundgarden to Type O Negative. Eminem got his start at The Shelter.

I thought the endless ‘rolls’ with mayo and random **** were bad, but…

The owners of Panda Express opened their own little bromakase / japanese-western abomination here in Pasadena. $200 or so a head.
We tried it out of morbid curiosity. We probably shouldn't have done it one week after returning from a Tokyo trip fueled by Michelin kaiseki.
So many bros.

Oh so that’s where B-rabbit faced off against Papa Doc??

When they let B-rabbit out of Warren to cross 8 Mile.

I've seen the Decemberists a few times, used to be one of my favorite bands and they put on a great show. For whatever reason, it seems @Michigan Planner and I have the same taste in music.

My elementary school age kids absolutely love The Mariner's Revenge Song and I have to remind them that they can't play it around polite company.

"My boys" and "the wife" painted such a vivid image in my head of who the dude is :rotflmao:

Everything about this sounds appalling

This is a masterpiece of a sentence-

I recently spent a week out there (primarily in East Austin) and was extremely disappointed.

I think my view is probably similar to the view of people who visit SF and have a skewed view of what it's like to live here. From what I could tell, Austin is an urban planning nightmare with pernicious lack of zoning. It felt like a ramshackle town in a foreign country. There were residential
blocks with random shanty coffee shops or food truck parks. It smelled like garbage and tire fires. I ran into more homeless people in a week than I do in months in SF. The weather was terrible (mid April and it was already too hot and humid). We have good friends in Austin who can't bear it so they decamp for the entire summer and their answer is that they love living in Austin but they live about 30 minutes outside Austin and rarely go into the "city."

There are certainly better areas of Austin by the "lake" (which is a river) and good food and great people and all of that but I had really expected a lot more. I've visited a few times previously and it felt markedly different (not in a good way).
This is an accurate assessment of the quickly gentrifying east side.

Add in the techbro douchebaggery of the more upscale side of town highlighted in the Times's bromekase article, and I think everyone has a pretty clear picture of Austin.
