There are certainly better areas of Austin by the "lake" (which is a river) and good food and great people and all of that but I had really expected a lot more. I've visited a few times previously and it felt markedly different (not in a good way).
When you compare the undammed sections of the river to Lake Austin/Town Lake (I think that's been renamed to Ladybird Lake), it seems kinda lake-like.

It's still only about 100 yards wide and has a visible current. Calling it a lake is willfully stupid, even by Texas standards.
