I was on the F train this past Sunday(nYc). Headed down to the Essex St Market for some brews.

A less than fortunate guy gets on and starts to say that he is homeless and needs something to eat/drink/etc.

I am sitting down and go into my pocket for my money clip. I was going to give him a few bucks.

I see a man take out packs of chips or something out of his bag and offer it. The guy doesn't take it.

I see another man/woman....wanting to hand the guy what looked like a newly purchased bag of stuff from a store. I saw a Coke + other stuff in there. It was pretty full. The guy didn't take it!

My money clip went back in my pocket!

Just be up front! I need CASH!

Very jibbeldy!

After your preceding post, I thought you meant one of the guys on the train offered the homeless guy some casino chips.

This is almost certainly the case. So many times people try to play things off with "tHaT's JuSt My iNterNet PerSoNa I'm NoT ReAlLy LikE tHiS in ReAl Life" but I think many people grossly underestimate how much of their true personalities shine through over time when posting on a forum.

I'm genuinely this stupid in real life.

For real- Number nine is dropping gold here, folks.

Dammit I have enough trouble keeping you two straight.

Ngl an Irish girl that can squirt is hot.

That's...very specific.

the phone shop guys never give me free tissues.

Me neither

A moment like this became a major inflection point in my life.

I wasn't homeless. I was deeply depressed. I had just left a session with my shrink, and was feeling pretty low about myself. A guy panhandled me as I walked into a Starbucks. I offered to get him something to eat, and he said "No, just give me the cash."

I was pretty burned up by that, so I plotted my revenge: I went to the nearest supermarket and bought a couple of dozen sandwiches, and spent the rest of the afternoon handing them out to homeless folks. I gave one to every one I could find other than that one guy.

By the time I was done I was in a totally different mental space, feeling like I'd turned my anger into something really beneficial. It was the start on an entirely new outlook on (my) life, and on volunteering. Now I approach my volunteer work as my mental health therapy, and many times I have left that crying tears of joy.

Who the hell carries and uses cash? I haven't had a dime in my pocket for the last 5 years. Evidently people still do or panhandlers would have found a new schtick by now I guess

I do similar stuff(the 2nd part) at times.

I ran out to grab lunch one day and there was a less fortunate guy standing outside Subway. I was headed there and he asked me if I had some spare change. I asked him if he was trying to get something to get. Yup.

I said...come with me. We went into Subway and I told him to get whatever. He started to order a 6" and I told him....get the larger 12" if you want. He looked at me and hesitated. Again, I said, get whatever you want.

He got the sandwich combo and I said...you better get that cookie also. So he got a chocolate chip cookie. I paid and said...grab a seat and enjoy.

He looked at me when I walked out and had a smile on his face!

I was driving back from Vegas with a lady friend, and we stopped right across the border for some In N Out. It was summer and there was one of those brief desert/summer rain showers.
A homeless guy comes up wanting to wash the windows. I'm like, brother it's raining. If you'd like some lunch I'll be happy to buy.
So I get the food and hand him his, and he starts following us to a table.
That's where I drew the line though.

You live in NYC and went to Subway?

Yeah.

People who live here don't sit down for sushi or foie gras when popping out for lunch. Some grab a sandwich or Burger King or Chinese and head back to the office.
