That is actually a well known side effect of over indulgence. Alcohol suppresses glutamate -- an excitatory neurotransmitter -- so the brain ramps up production to compensate. As your body metabolizes the alcohol over time, glutamate becomes increasingly elevated relative to the normal baseline. At some point determined by your individual physiology, this pops you awake and, because your brain is now fizzing with a natural stimulant, it's very hard to get back to sleep.

For some time now I've been feeling significantly fatigued. My doctors have run all sorts of tests and come up with nothing. Wednesday the PA in my PCP's office ordered a blood test checking my B12 and D levels. Turns out I've got a significant deficiency in both ... so much so that the PA called me and asked me to come in immediately for a B12 shot and Vitamin D pills. I'm hoping this explains it -- time may tell -- but am wondering why none of my doctors (including specialists as in pulmonologist, hematologist, cardiologist, etc.) haven't bothered to check prior to now. Each seemed to want to find something specific to his/her field. Could it be this simple?

Hope this is it.

Vitamin D deficiency
Welcome to the PNW!

Seriously, though, the good thing is the cure for both of your ills is a simple recipe of getting more sunshine and eating more meat. I'm sure your partner will be happy to hear that.

What?!? Get your mind out of the gutter. I just meant they can look forward to grilling up lots of steak during those long PNW summer days.

Encountered a brand new Toyota Prius, complete with temp tags and dealer paperwork stuck to the window, as it pulled out of the lot. Followed it down the street and onto the highway, where it promptly veered into the fast lane and started doing 55.

Everything these people do is intentional.

How old are you?
70

As a young thing said the other day: "Damn, you look really good for your age. But when I look right around your eyes, I can tell you are REALLY old."

Could just be something as simple as low T.

Not sure I can handle more. It's still once a day ... minimum.

But in all sincerity, I may ask that they check that.
