Crapitty crap crap! Crap! Officially announced today that my company, where I have worked for 15 years, will be folded into our parent company as of January 1 and then will cease to exist. Pretty certain my office will be closed. Wonder if I will still have a job?
Stress level just tripled.

Sorry to hear that, fella. Got a current résumé?

Good on you for preparing for it. Any chance of a sweet severance or golden parachute?

Unfortunately, no. I am not far enough up the food chain for them to care. But I do plan to see what they put on the table. It may be a worthwhile offer, it may be a position in the farthest outpost in rural Japan with the assumption that I will quit, which I would. I am in wait and see mode.

Yep...exactly. But I am not panicking yet. Change is good...right?

Sorry Alter, that's not good news. Best of luck to you.

In my world, still no power. And it is pretty freaking cold at night. Open-hearth fireplaces are worthless, btw, if anyone was wondering. I didn't shower or anything, what with no hot water... I guess I could have heated some water on the gas stove and taken a sponge-bath in the 52-degree morning, but F that. Then, adding insult to injury, a shoelace broke on the beater shoes i was putting on, and I didn't feel like hunting down something better, so Ipulled on some old white tennis sneakers with the jeans I am wearing today and I look like I'm dressed as Jerry Seinfeld for Halloween.

AND this ******* terminal lag is going to be the end of me.

What else? Stuff that matters to other people.

Was talking to a management consultant on Saturday and she was saying that no meeting should ever take more than two hours

My rule is 90 minutes.

Alter, sorry to hear this, brah. Hoping for the best for ya.

Douglas, is your Scottish blood so weakened you can't take a cold shower? :(

No, my Scottish blood figured a day without a shower wouldn't stink so much as to justify the cost of the water.

Man, that Jerry Seinfeld business is insult to injury. FWIW, cold showers are blessings from heaven on running days. Even 52- degree ones.

Okay, this works for me.

We lost power at our office for 30 minutes, just long enough for me to have to force the servers down and then deal with all the issues on everyone coming back up at the same time. feh.

That this headline is still so popular after 5 days that it still appears at the top of Google News:
