Grandma passed away last night, around 9 o'clock; it didn't really hit me until just now. She wrote each of us a letter when she knew her time was short, and reading that letter broke my heart. I don't know what I'm going to do without her.

Stitch, very sorry to hear about your uncle. This sucks, right?

connie, sorry for your loss.

I have to say I envy you guys your connection with your extended family, though. the death of my grandparents and various uncles and aunts didn't really mean anything to me. it's very cool how connected you are to family.

I remember seeing my grandmother just a day (or hours?) before her death, and it was a pretty significant feeling for me. We weren't very close and she and my mother never had a very good relationship, but nonetheless it was such a visceral scene it has left a lasting impression. It is a heart breaking scene to watch a human life end. Condolences to you Conne, and Stitch.

Condolences, Conne. I remember the last conversation I had with my grandfather - he wanted me to come up to see him one last time, but he died later that evening.

Stitch, hope your grandma is doing okay. Sounds like a very good thing for your mom to fly out to be with her. My thoughts continue to be with your family.

Condolences Stitchy. You know where to find me if you need me.

My condolences Conne. Jesus christ, that's both horrible and wonderful about the note. I'd love to have someone think about me in their final hours, enough so that they want to leave me a letter, but then to have to read that must be hearwrenching.

If you need to talk you know where to find me.

This happened to me when I was contracting with the Federal government. After 2 months of not being paid, I wrote a letter pointing out that my local MP was their shadow Minister, and I was quite happy to go down and tell him about how efficient they all were. Never had another problem.

Sadly if your a sub contractor in Canberra such action would only lead to you being told by the hire firm that your services are no longer required.
