I'm probably going to have to move super last minute.
The apartment flood destroyed my floors and they want to replace them all with tile...an option would probably be to pack everything up and move it to the basement storage room for a few anId then move it back and unpack--but that kind of sucks.
They are offering to move me to another unit...but they won't cut the rent on them down to what I pay and I think they will all suck.
Third option would be to declare it uninhabitable and give notice that I am vacating and break the lease (Since they can't fix it with me in the unit...I think I have legal standing to break the lease without issue) and find a new place.
The problem with options 2 and 3 are that anything that is unleased for september probably sucks. Friends who have found new places said that september sucked really bad in the chicago market this year...and thus anything that isn't taken is probably either ****** or way overpriced.
I'm willing to pay more than I currently pay but not for a big drop in square footage or an awkward layout.
Anyone know where I would stand on getting my current management company to pay for movers if I stay in my unit or building? They can't fix it with me in the unit so it seems like it should be their responsibility. I have a broken hand so I can't really do it myself
