YOu know the Steve Earle song "I Feel Alright' they play in the season 2 end of season montage? Last night I was blasting that as I drove past hookers, drug dealers and abandoned industrial sites. It was legit like "The Wire".

I had a 50y/o grey haired consultant pull me aside one day and asked me if I played games like WoW/ect. Apparently he's addicted to it and assumed that I played also (probably because i'm mexi-asian and young looking). The last game console I had was a super nintendo.

I've had the same thing happen to me but it wasn't about video games.

WoW was sweet although I have no interest in starting up again...

I plan to pick up Diablo 3 when it comes out...and I may have committed to trying guild wars 2 when it comes out with a few friends...but I seem to have lost the video game drive lately.

SH, I have certainly run across folks where WOW (or EQ, which I started playing in beta back in 1999) was an unhealthy thing in their lives. It obviously filled a MAJOR thing that was missing. I mean, I've logged on say Friday night for a couple of hours, log back on Saturday afternoon...and they are still on! It's very interesting on who some of the most hardcore adult players are too. I've found either single moms or military wives with the husband deployed are some of the most harcore. Not unsurprisingly, unemployed folks of both sexes. I also find people recovering from some sort of illness will be real hardcore while they are home bound.

However, I know a few very productive couples, i.e. both have great jobs, that met in EQ. Two are married with kids..both of the wives are military and husbands civvies too.

We all know stories about young people taking this too seriously but some young people take things too seriously be it weight lifting, WoW, or prom. Same problem just a different focus.

So, adults with lives. Once you level up (not hard in eight weeks or so) you find an adult guild. There are always a few hardcore folks that form a nucleus and then folks that are less so but like the real raids. Everyone has a calendar function and you just book yourself in. So I probably will not log on until Thursday but I know at 7p server time I have a 10 man raid. I probably will play three hours and not log on until Sunday when another raid is already scheduled.

It's fun, a nice stress reducer, and generally a bit of light entertainment.

I also feel this way about fantasy football/baseball/basketball ect...

I'm sometimes envious when some friends are so into it and I'm not part of it... but then I think about how inane it looks from an outsider's perspective.

I'm pissed off that I can't play online poker anymore. Its fun driving to the local underground games (there's a ton in the dumbo area if not just head over the williamsburg bridge to the motherload), and feels kinda rounders/michael clayton-esk but you can be so much more productive doing it in front of a computer. Plus playing live underground games you have to be very secretive (my wife knows but i don't tell my family/friends because they eventually want to come).

Is this a self diagnosis? Usually Celiac is fairly straightforward in its diagnosis. You eat gluten, you get sick.

Well, I feel like crap when I eat a wide variety of things. I have lived with it as normal for a while, but I am finally just getting tested because I have a lot of the accompanying symptoms as well.
