I've put in what are effectively 2 12 hour days and gotten absolutely nothing done at all. I probably shouldn't care because I get paid either way and the enterprise is well funded enough that it can last for a year or two in this state, but I don't like spinning my wheels and feeling like I'm not contributing anything.

Wait...so you basically put in 2 days and are complaining about doing nothing?

My company is decades away from being a startup and yet, depending on when you start, you could easily have several days of downtime before you start doing regular work. Some of that would be taken up with HR and IT training but I wouldn't worry about not having anything solid to work on right away.

If by the end of next week, you feel like you haven't done anything...start to get worried.

today, driving to work and on the lane on my right, a car ran over a cat. first thing I saw was the cat- an orange and white stray- squirming wildly on the pavement. as I drove past it, I saw that its lower face was crushed but the rest of its body is alright, and it was at this point jerking wildly obviously feeling tremendous pain. judging from its size its probably less than a year old. for a moment there I thought of running it over just to spare it further excruciating pain. I couldn't stop and I'm hoping the traffic cop several meters in front would notice the slight jam that happened.

That's just terrible. The closest I've seen was a bird and this was in a subdivision. Hopefully, the traffic cop did something to end its suffering.

poor kitty Last night, the administrative assistant on duty decided that the office dinner order should be from TGI Fridays. It almost was enough to convince me to bail and go home but I wanted to get this work done. So I decided to skip the office order, go grab something good, and expense it...had a lovely sandwich from xoco (wednesday pork belly special) and some churros with mexican soft serve. I then promptly forgot to keep the receipt and let it get thrown away with my dishes.

You did the right thing but that sure is a nice watch.

I just spent several hours cleaning up a virus from my computer. Seeing as how I know next to nothing about computers I'm pretty amazed I was able to fix it.

And the indignation in their voices when this happens. This is a fight you can win, by the way. I'm sure the TV can be set on a higher volume than your wife.

got my team together to discuss some issues. I don't have any good news for them, and I feel bad about it, but basically have nothing that I can do. very rough meeting, several hours of bitching

Modern female likes to play the power game. Be a man and walk over it, lay the rules down.
