Large metal watches with tailoring.

Sport watch with tailoring.

  • Yes, I’m tacky like that.

  • No way José! Dress watch with leather strap for me!

  • No watch at all.

Just curios what people think about this topic. Personally I think the large sport watch (speedmaster, nautilus etc) with metal band looks incredibly tasteless worn with tailored clothes. It’s a very common look though, so I might be wrong.

Not all metal (precious or otherwise) bracelet watches are created equal. There are some models that I think work fine with a suit depending on the occasion. The Cartier Santos (in blue) for example is an elegant watch that fits nicely under the wrist

Agreed. Do you consider this a sports watch? To me its a dress watch.

In my experience metal band watches all have a tendency to slip down. Then you get that very unpleasant situation were part of the watch is visible beneath the cuff.
It’s easier to tighten a small leather strapped watch so that it sits were it should, above the wrist bone.

An ill fitting bracelet Is somewhat orthogonal to the discussion on whether it can be elegant enough for a suit. Obviously if it doesn’t fit you well, you probably shouldn’t be wearing it. That applies to the rest of the outfit and not just the watch.

Santos with leather band is an ok dress watch at 38mm. Still too chunky in my book.
