I was at my mate's house and he confided in me how relieved he was to trade up from his pathetic 5.2 liter supercharged V8 Raptor to an aspirational 6.2 liter supercharged V8 1500 TRX.

You probably have the strap adjusted too tight. I about threw my first one away because I could not get it on for the life of me. Later learned that, if it's adjusted too tight, you'll never get that hook in there. Takes about 1 second nowadays.
So I tried this. Loosening the strap made it marginally easier to fasten. But now the strap is marginally too loose. Gaaaah.

I just learned about the mid-2000s 36mm Railmaster. 2504.52. I wonder if I'd like this more than the Explorer (which severely underwhelmed IRL when I tried on the 39mm model).

There is also a 39mm model from the same era, which may be easier to find (this 36 seems pretty rare).

It's just a matter of practice, then. Tighten it to a point where you want to wear it. I use my right index finger to lift up on the square piece a little bit while trying to hook it. It'll come.
