I think the abuse, per se, is for soliciting the generosity of another forum member, not accepting it. I don't see people bashing the ppl accepting stuff people are giving away in B&S forum.

I also think the concept that you can't work during college is BS. I attended one of the most rigorous undergrad institutions in this country and was able to work between 2 and 3 jobs while doing it. It certainly wasn't easy and I still wasn't anywhere near self-sufficient w/o my scholarship but it was at least a step in that direction.
