I worked a few jobs during college that paid $6-8 per hour, and sold on ebay as well to pad my income. I realized that it's not too hard to make $50-75K a year profit on ebay at a young age, if you really put time towards finding stuff to sell several times a week, and pushing your wares. I quit my traditional jobs after realizing this, and have been doing well ever since.

The abuse (which wasn't completely undeserved, but was IMO excessive) was b/c people thought he had an unrepentant attitude for a dangerous act.

Personally I think a simple "no I don't think that clothing is appropriate" would have sufficed, as he probably got all of the lectures he needed from his parents.

Just be sure you're staying on the good side of the WI Dept of Revenue and the IRS. The former will come down on you like a ton of bricks if you don't have good documentation that the majority of your sales are out of state. I know a few ppl in Madison that got nailed b/c they didn't have adequate documentation. Had to pay like $20k in sales tax out of pocket with penalties, fees, etc.

Which is why I invested in a nice 12-pocket portfolio to keep all my store receipts, shipping receipts, and also ordered a platinum credit card to use for mostly business purposes, in the event I need to claim taxes. I have also been keeping a somewhat-documented log of all my net sales, ebay/paypal fees, and item costs. GOTTA LOVE THE MAN!

Let's not forget the hilarious irony of a guy who just bleeds the image of "wealthy privilege" (parents have fancy house with luxury furniture in expensive state of New York, guy goes to what I assume to be an expensive private school and spends his time talking about expensive clothing and liquor and getting wasted and partying irresponsibly, c.f. DUI thread) trying to pull the struggling college student card and declare himself somehow above having to do any sort of work to gain money, especially irritating considering that the goal of getting said money was on what amounts to a frivolous luxury purchase, not even something compelling like basic living expenses. I was fortunate enough that my family was able and willing to help cover most of my basic expenses during my college years, and I appreciate that; were I one of the many people I've known who have had to bust their asses off just to afford schooling and/or survival during their college years, I would see the original post as a slap in the face.

Let's also not forget the irony of a poster who pops up in the Current Events forum as one of the more aggressive and belligerent advocates of socialism trying to position as worthy of charity his desire to expend money on such an aforementioned frivolous luxury purchase. Poor people are starving all over the place, shouldn't you be seeking money to take care of them instead of to fulfill your desire to be around expensive pieces of luxury clothing?

I completely agree with you, aybojs. Completely tasteless.

While we're piling on, I declare that his taste in women is also suspect.

I only have to agree with several posters said

I also have to struggle during my college and early university years, yes my parents covered the basics and I had to work hard to keep my 1/2 scholarship, but I had no money whatsoever for extras; no partying, no gadgets, not any kind of luxury... I didn't even had money for cigarrettes at that time, But i really worked hard studying and started doing profesional work as soon as my academic background allowed me when I was to around 21. Working as an apprentice engineer didn't paid a lot either...

Now a seasoned profesional engineer I have enough extra cash to pay me some little luxuries.

But what I see in the younger geration is this. They want it all, want it fast and with no effort at all, they feel entitled to. my nephew has 18 now and had a hard time learning so, when me and my sister simply stopped giving him money and things.. now he has to learn to be a man and earn it. with hard work at college and the university and later on in his professional life.

As I recall, there were a number of rather experienced and knowledgeable trial lawyers telling him that certain elements of his planned attire would come off as outre or frivolous in the courtroom, and Conn persisted in arguing aesthetic theory justifying his planned outfit, ignoring the fact that the attorneys' advice was based on simple experience. I'd be irritated too if someone asked me advice in my field of expertise and then proceeded to dismissively sweep aside what I said.
