I'd love a lower tolerance so I could spend less money, but I don't have 50 available pounds to lose.

Maybe 10.

But less tolerance means I can try less wines at one shot and not feel the effects strongly. I think there is something to tasting through a nice 6-8 ounce pour vs. swish and spit. It opens in your glass, you get the full finish, etc. I love going to one of my places and getting tasted by a rep or the staff through a dozen wines like that.

I don't like tasting too many wines at once. My palate gets all overloaded and everything ends up tasting the same. You lose the nuances.

palate fatigue typically happens to me at wine 4 or 5, quite early.

the exception would be tasting a bunch of the same or similar varietals in a row, like a group of white Burgs or a group of Bordeaux. I actually find tastings like this to be the best as you can really pick up on the differences.

Wow, vintage variation in CA wine...what's the world coming to? Had an 08 Klinker Bricks Old Vine Zin on Friday and it was damn good for a retail of $16. Bought an 09 Sunday and had it last night. Cherry cough syrup.
Speaking of vintage variation, how are the Left Coast 10s shaping up? I've read nothing but kvetching from the wine makers.

I think 2010is a great vintage. Most of the 10s I have tried have had great balance and are relatively light and elegant. If, the winemakers you talked to waited to pick after the rains trying to get really ripe grapes, then they probably aren't happy about the wines.

The trick to a big tasting is Champs. I'm not kidding. Have a nice slow flute with a lot of swish after every four or five. Totally cleanses the palate.

Just bought some cheaper Chapoutier wines with discount. One case of Bila Haut for 4,50€ per bottle and three bottles of Belleruche for 6,75€ each. I'm sure they'll be just fine.

Oh, ok. I thought he's just an importer of already bottled wine.

This 2006 Chateau Payros from Madiron is fantastic. $15!

I've had it at a wine bar. It was the first Madiron I've ever had. I thought it was great. Very Bordeaux-y.
