So this is the result of my B-day present from my inlaws. Had input from our resident snake-in-the-grass Francophile.

Noice! Day 2 with the Palomero. Goes to show the impact of decanting. Wow. Leather is very much in recess at this point. Still there, but no so overpowering. Wine is still solidly tannic, but the fruit is much more prevalent. Blackberries and ripe cherry. This is a very smooth drinking wine, but I wouldn't call it particularly complex. WS has this as a $110 wine.

I just don't see that. I like it, but I need a $110 wine to blow me away. For $40ish that we got it for on WTSO it's a nice deal. I like very much and at that level I think it's a good bargain, but I wouldn't pay the full freight on this. Perhaps that's why they were liquidating it on WTSO in the first place. JMHO.

Dipped into my Pride Mountain stock a couple days ago and drank a 1997 Pride merlot. Superb stuff; has years and years to go. Followed by a 1995 Silver Oak Alex. Valley -- my last bottle of a 1/2 case bought in 1999. Still drinking surprisingly well, though it tasted nothing like the yummy/oaky/fruitiness that it used to be years ago.

Found a wine shop in Dallas with lots of '80's Bordeaux. Who knew? Didn't buy any. Will store the info and buy some when and if I need it.

Saw an '81 D'Issan and an '83 Ducru, among others. Have to wonder about the conditions they've been kept in, but the prices weren't necessarily outrageous.
