Nothing wrong with the Ross.

It is just that bike forums sees them as SW&D sees $35 Kmart Levis 505. Sure they are perfectly serviceable, a good value, and will last a while...but they are not stylish, quality-workmanship, or very interesting.

Five sizes in six weeks? Did you acquire a tapeworm or something?

I think your best bet to date them will either be their bartacks or their rivets.

Props to Stewie for posting that Levis site a few pages back. Good resource.

I started that thread like a year ago...

Anyone want to revive it?

There were actually about 5 other pairs in the same bundle as these, and they all had dates on their tag (1981, 1982, 1985, 1986, 1993, and 1997). The two from the 90s were much different in styling, and the one from 1997 obviously started using the Levis URL as well. I snagged the two earliest pairs.

Also, the thighs are not that big. The pictures may make it look that way, but these are laid out flat. I measured them out (from just below the crotch seam) and they're 17" in diameter.

Lastly, wasn't the founding date of Levi Strauss and Co. 1853? So... 1853 + 130 = 1983 (close enough, I guess).

Well, the tag says 1873, which is what I was going off of. But you're right, they do have a date that I didn't notice before. And looking it up, the 1873 is when they started making jean overalls, 1853 is when Levi started a dry goods store.

Yesterday:

Church's Chetwynd, size 8UK(? - Is that the size handwritten on the side of the shoe?); in great shape with good soles. Great find. Unfortunately, not my size. Nice nevertheless.

Have the exact shoes in black and brown. Love them. Mine are a little big for me but wearing regularly no problem, converted the black to a winter/wet beater shoe with rubber toppers on soles. My best thrift finds for myself.

Yeesh. I just sold four sets of Trafalgar braces for a total of $350. So if you find them (the ones with pictures, not abstract designs or solid colors)... buy them.

I acquired a serious increase in focus from my doctor.

It's probably a bit overstated. I've gone from 46-47R to 42-43R in 8 weeks. Chest has reduced more than waist; i still had to let the pants out.

Those are the Limited Edition braces, right? When I was wearing braces a few decades ago, those retailed for about $100/pair. Never bought any, but will certainly keep an eye out now!

Newer 501XX are stamped with over 135 years in the pocket lining , just saying, those look just like the levis that they got rid of prior to the new STF's with the 501 patch in the center.

Thanks so much for posting a picture of the inside of that sole! I found a pair in 10.5 black wing tips that I have been trying to ID for 2 days! These pix are post polishing and waxing the sole edges.
