I don't mind the questions and I'm happy to help, as long as they're not constant "is this good/should I buy this?" questions. What I've noticed recently, and maybe what @double00 was seeing, is that you get a few new posters who monopolize the thread with a post for every random thought that they have. That does get annoying.

Mash up of Charles Barkley's CB 34 model and an Air Force 1. Their attempt to stay relevant back in the day.

My man. Anything special now?

IMO no, but, if cheap enough, there's always someone looking to fill a gap in a collection, somewhere. Leather looks...nice, dare I say.
Picked up for £6. Size 8, so even if £20 I can make some cash.

Buys me a free lunch.

Glad to meet and help noobs. but i'm always going to wonder. What brings you here?

I was taking lvl 3 of my cfa certification in June. I basically didn't have time to go out during the last two months of studying and a Goodwill opened up between my workplace and the train. I just started browsing the gw for a bit of relaxation and alone time. Didn't even buy anything for the first month, then I was like hey there is some good stuff here if you kind of know your labels and brands.

I think I've probably been on a decade hiatus from styleforum posting but finding thrifting randomly and this thread brought me back.

I appreciate everyone that has fielded noob questions I've posed. As with many things...(still) learning curve.

I got into thrifting because growing up we went to a lot of estate sales. Everyone has a different reason, many the same, and each as valid as the next.

Grails are fun to see, but I think it's important to not become disillusioned by them, and appreciate whatever someone brings to the table. There's not many outlets for people to share the excitement of finding something they love at a thrift store. Community, and whatnot, ya know?

The main reason I keep coming back is not to brag, but because I think this thread is probably the most informative thread on SF. I find out so much about labels I've never heard of, how to tell good from bad, how to clean stuff, who makes what, what can be saved and what can't and much more. Don't underestimate the value of this thread as an information source, and maybe put up with questions from people who are early on their learning curve. Nobody has to answer them.

I've always thought of this hobby like collecting -- stamps, baseball cards, notches on the belt. It's all about the hunt and finding new, rare things. But then I had twins and now it's all about the profit.

Seeing people's finds is pretty motivating for me. Just yesterday I was afflicted with some serious malaise - then popped into this thread and literally within about 15 seconds I was inside my car, heading out for a hybrid thrift/overtime work day. Managed to put six hours on the clock and even found a couple things. If I can help motivate anyone then that's cool. Plus it's just nice to sort of pay homage to these awesome garments and their creators for a split second before they're adopted into their forever home, never to seen by prying eyes again..

When I was a nuclear engineer, I turned my woodworking hobby into a business, then I did the same with thrifting, maybe one day I'll find a hobby that's just a hobby. I hope not, that sounds boring.

Hi there. I only created an account to let people know what happened to Dan aka theneedmachine. I know he had a huge presence all over the internet, so I am trying to help give some answers where I can. I am in touch with his family. He passed away suddenly in mid March. He had a severely enlarged heart a few blocked arteries. He died suddenly from a heart attack, he did not have any pain or prior cardiac symptoms. He was cremated and his remains are with family. I completely understand at shock. he was a brother to me, and best friend for over 25 years. I hope that this helps and if you could please let others know.
Take Care,
Kristine

I don't know if you're going to check this account, but thank you so much for updating us. I know this online community is pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but I know we all had questions and thoroughly appreciate understanding what happened.

I've always felt bad that we never connected, and I know other ATL thrifters feel the same way. Dan is truly missed.
