The Hermes tie has a single thread running down the back of the tie holding the seam together. This thread forms a loop at both ends of the tie and can be pulled to tighten the seam. Since the ties are made by hand the length of the thread varies depending on who makes it.
Sometimes the loop is pulled up inside the large blade and cannot be seen, but you can always look inside the seam on the back and confirm that there is a single thread holding it together.

I'm not @SpooPoker but was just thinking about this a couple days back... I'm at ~150 in my personal collection/rotation, which likely sounds absurd. I'm at the point where I have to decide between getting rid of a Ricci, Kiton, Hermes, etc if I'm going to take one out of my collection.
