This alden plain toe with a close heel welt is the best type of plain toe I've seen. I sheds the bulk of the 9901 and doesn't have the metal eyelets like its BB counterpart. I wish Alden sold this shoe as part of its regular like. I would be a buyer.

There is a time and place for both black and antique edge on color 8. I've gone back and forth between the two. Some models (like longwings) may be worth owning in both versions because they can look so different.

I guess I would say that antique edging tends to look best on the Barrie last. In fact I don't know if I have seen an antique / color 8 combo on anything but a Barrie last.

Interesting. So whiskey will darken with age, whereas #8 will lighten?

Somewhat paradoxical... lighter shell colors will darken and darker shells will lighten.
