White soled Alden shoes are great if you are into that raw denim, workboot, flannel shirt type style. But I think they work better with moc toe type designs.

Thanks! I feel like CXL responds very well to the Method.

Yes, they are very comfortable for all day wear. They are a bit on the heavier side but love how they feel

Leather uppers look nice and would probably age beautifully. But the soles are horrid.

Moulded Shoes describes them as "Tar Brown Calfskin on lightweight rubber soles." I assume they are the same Vibram-like soles you see on other Aldens occasionally. They are on the Modfied last.

Yeah, like many of you I am very hesitant about the sole, but trying to decide if it is worth trying on in person. I am looking for an Alden boot with a bit more cushion in the sole, and something besides standard leather. Roy boot at Context is a possbility, but a long wait for the next restock, and I need something quicker.

I actually take that back, the Leather Soul / Self Edge boots on the wedge soles were fantastic... Those weren't a moc toe style

I agree, I had seen the Leather Soul Conservation boots as well as the Blackbird Tugger boots, which both had this sort of sole and looked great, but these look different somehow -- perhaps it's the modified last... or just the picture angle...

I don't have a commando soled boot, but I hear they are quite comfy and offer some 'cushion' over a normal leather sole. Should be easy to come by too boot. Pun intended.

I think the issue is that the calfskin looks too "smooth" and "dress shoe" like compared to the sole. The shoe looks mismatched. Not really an issue with chromexcel, pebblegrain and other thicker leathers.

Are those snuff suede or chocolate? Look like the latter in that picture.

In any event, I wish I could help you with your offload desire, but, as with you, 9 is too big. Good luck finding a larger-footed folk.
